MEDICATION TRIAL — ENROLLING

Can lamotrigine help teens drink less?

We're testing whether lamotrigine — a medicine the FDA has already approved to treat other conditions in children, teens, and adults — helps young people reduce their drinking. Everyone in the study also receives an alcohol education program.

What taking part looks like

  1. A phone call, about 15 minutes

We ask some questions to see whether the study might fit. Nothing is decided on this call.

  2. A visit to our offices or virtual

You meet the study team, we explain everything in detail, and you decide whether to enroll. A physician checks that the medication is safe for you.

  3. Nine weeks of the study

You take the study medication daily and come in for brief visits. Between visits, you answer short questions on your phone.

  4. A final visit

We wrap up, answer questions, and can connect you with ongoing care if you want it.

You can stop at any time

Taking part is your choice. You can leave the study whenever you want, for any reason, and it will not affect care you receive at Bradley Hospital or anywhere else.

Who sees your information

What you tell us stays with the study team. We describe exactly what your parent does and does not see before you enroll, so there are no surprises. Study records are kept separate from your medical chart.
