Three digital tools for teens, built with the people who'd use them

Our team is presenting at the American Psychological Association convention in Washington, DC this August, and the thread running through all three talks is the same: none of these tools were designed for young people, they were designed with them. Julie Cristello will describe an app being built as a companion to treatment, shaped by interviews with teens and caregivers about what actually gets in the way of using new skills at home—forgetfulness, impulsivity, hard moments. Melissa Pielech will present Path180, a seven-module online program for young people cutting back on drinking, which 90 percent of the 79 young adults who tried it said addressed something they were struggling with. And Robert Miranda and Ryan Carpenter will share findings from young adults who use alcohol and opioids together, tracked in real time for three weeks, pointing to the moments—low mood, cravings, certain company—when the risk is highest and an intervention might matter most.
